Featured Fabric: Warlu Jarlji Jukurrpa (Frog Dreaming) by Thomas Jangala Rice

This painting tells the story of the Jarlji Jukurrpa (frog Dreaming) from Jarljikirlangu. Jarljikirlangu is home to a creek that is dry for most of the year, it lies west of Mt. Denison . The name Jarljikirlangu means ‘belonging to frog’.

During the dry season jarlji (the frog) burrows beneath the surface to hibernate. When the rains come, the creek turns swamp-like and the jarlji begin to croak. When jarlji are crocking, the women begin to dig and find jarlji for food.
