Mavis Marks – Women’s Business 40cm

Feature fabric designed by Aboriginal artist Mavis Napanangka Marks and hand-printed in Australia.

Mavis is a member of Ikuntji Artists, an Aboriginal owned non-profit art centre located in Haasts Bluff, Central Australia.

 

Description

  • Size: Cushion cover: 40 x 40 cm (16 x 16 inches)
  • Fabric: Tencel/linen (front) and cotton (back)
  • Colour: The base cloth is olive green and the ink is antique white (a slight cream colour)

Design: Women’s Business

In this design, Mavis depicts women’s business. She paints the women’s ceremonial dancing at Mt Liebig, close to where she was born and where she has lived most of her life. Using bold brush strokes, she depicts the designs traditionally used for ceremonial body painting.

Mavis is a member of Ikuntji Artists in Haasts Bluff, Central Australia

Made from fabric hand screen printed in Australia by Publisher Textiles, Sydney.

Cushion made by Mrs Pichreay as a fair trade project in Cambodia by Flying Fox Fabrics.

The artist is paid royalties for every metre printed.
