Elah is a Gumatj Yolngu artist and carver from NE Arnhem Land. He often collaborates on his lovely bird and animal sculptures with his wife, Barbara Wanambi.
The blue-winged kookaburra (Dacelo leachii) is a large species of kingfisher native to northern Australia and southern New Guinea. It has a big square head and a long bill and a distinctive pale eye. Their call has been described as a maniacal cackling or barking. This sweet bird is holding a leaf in its beak.
