An Afternoon with Carol Cassidy, discussing Weaving, Tradition, Art and Community in Laos
We are delighted to invite you to an afternoon with Carol Cassidy, acclaimed weaver and founder of Lao Textiles, a social enterprise in Vientiane, Laos. She’s also promised to bring samples!
This is a rare opportunity to catch her on her during her travels. We’ll have time for nibbles, drinks, mingling and then a fascinating presentation about Laos textiles and her own life.
Carol has an extraordinary CV living a creative, dynamic, cross-cultural life as well as founding and managing an ethical business employing skilled artisans. See a New York Times feature article here.
From the USA she is an outstanding textile artist in her own right, and has been living in Laos since 1989 and working with weavers in Vientiane and beyond. Lao Textiles has collaborated with retail spaces, galleries and fashion houses around the world and also creates for architectural projects. Carol is currently working on the first ever Laos National Textile Exhibition, being undertaken for ASEAN.
Carol is a warm and engaging person, a great raconteur with many fabulous stories who has been living in a fascinating part of the textile world. Happily for us, Carol’s daughter has been studying at CDU so she’s visiting our neck of the woods in late September and we locked her in for a talk.
SE Asia is famous for exquisite silk textiles each country and region has its unique traditions and Laos is no exception.
It’s an absolute privilege to be able to host this event.
